Black Queen Rising

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star..." the young woman sung under her breath. From her bedroom window she stared at the bright lights so far above her and wished something exciting would happen to her. From the time she was old enough to understand the concept of prayers and wishes, 18 year-old Quinn Carson, had always asked for the same thing; Give Me an adventure.

So far the Fates still had not catered to her leaving her in a ditch. As she expected to do something more interesting then graduating college or university, Quinn had not really planned for any type of future that didn't include being a hero, and with her final year in high school coming close to an end her parents were pushing her to make some sort of a decision. That didn't include adventure.

So far she had been able to keep her parents off her back with promises to look into some schools but they were quickly getting fed up with her lack of action.

Glancing at her alarm clock Quinn grimaced, "Damn, almost 12 and still nothing." Pulling her head back into the room she quietly closed her window and got ready for bed. After dressing in her black and red pajamas she got in bed.

Snuggled into the blankets, she stared at her ceiling covered in super hero posters, sighing she turned onto her side,/Maybe my parents are right. I should get my head out of the clouds and start thinking about a more realistic future./

Quinn let that thought linger in her head for a moment then snorted,/Who am I kidding? I'll never give up my dream because I know I'm destined for something great./ With a smile on her face Quinn closed her eyes and fell asleep, dreams of saving the world running through her head. Unknown to her wish was about to come true in a most unexpected way.

"What do you mean she escaped!" the women screamed in anger.

"The prison transport was attacked and Lucia 'The Chimera' Hollse was able to escape with her men." the messenger said in a surprisingly calm voice as at that very moment he feared for the safety of his life. Telling Admiral Aurora Bastion, one of the most powerful aliens in the universe, bad news never resulted in good things.

The messenger jumped as said alien slammed her fists onto the table, an audible crack was heard, "I told those idiots to put all available men onto guard duty. They should have realized something like this would happen. What the hell were they thinking?"

Leaning back in her chair, Aurora let out a groan. "God damn it we just managed to capture her now this happens. Do we have any idea where she went?"

"Actually we do. The ship she was escaping in was seriously damaged and as such could not make it that far. Sensors have tracked the ship to a relatively primitive planet known as Earth. With the lack of technology on the planet it will take her many months to get off of it."

"What are the fools waiting for? Send a squad to capture her, she's a threat that warrants immediate action!"

"There is a problem with that ma'am, the planet hasn't been claimed by any federation as such any action we take will be seen as an attempt of a takeover which could plunge us into a war with the others."

"This just gets better and better. The idiots that invented that law should be killed." Aurora muttered, "Put a request in for Claiming."

"Right away, is there anything else?" The messenger asked hoping to leave this unscratched.

"Yeah send for Sting, I have an idea that may help us capture Lucia." ************************************************************************
Earth

Quinn awoke with the feeling that today was the day her life would change. Then again that's what she thought everyday.

Tossing her bed covers off she got ready for school. White uniform shirt, check. Gray pants, check. Ugly ass red cardigan, check, sadly.

In the bathroom she brushed her teeth and threw her long black hair into a low pony. Downstairs she wasn't surprised to see it empty. Her parents were always up and gone to their respective job long before she was awake. Meant many lonely mornings but she had gotten used to it.

Grabbing her school bag she left her house locking the door as she went. Setting a quick pace it was only a few minutes before her school came into view.

Founded in the 1950's, Queens High was the oldest school in the town of Magnolia. The school was starting to show its age, old air conditioning units hung from all the windows. The brick wall was stained from decades of snow and pollution. The front entrance was worn and cracked from years of neglect. The front lawn was green not from grass but a wide variety of weeds.

The people hanging around the entrance did not help the image either. Boys wearing low slung stained dress pants and ripped white shirts. Cigarettes and blunts hung from all but a few of their lips. The girls weren't much better.

Shirts so tight things that shouldn't be seen were spilling out. Skirts so high imagination wasn't needed to see what was underneath. Makeup, that was meant to highlight their looks, only hid and disfigured them.

Teachers had long since given up on the group calling them lost causes and Quinn had to agree with them.

Quinn was brought out of her thoughts by a loud voice, "Look who it is! How are you 'Black Queen' Anderson?"

She glared at the owner of the voice, Derek ‘Undead’ Cohler, resident gang leader and bane of her existence. They had met in grade school and right from the start they did not get along. As the years passed their school yard scuffles turned into something like a school attraction. By the start of high school they had amassed there own following, the Undead Army and and the Queen’s Legion, that fought as often as they did.

Derek was tall, about 6'4, with short black hair. He had bright blue eyes that continuously darted around looking for the next thing to grab his attention. His nose was slightly crooked from the few breaks he suffered from fights, he also had a small scar on his right cheek from there first encounter. His mouth was set in perpetual sneer that gave him an evil vibe. He was what girls called a ‘bad boy’. Quinn just called him a jack ass that needed to be put in his place.

Derek had gotten his nickname because no matter how many times he was hit he never went down, it also had to do with his brutal fighting style where he was willing to sacrifice parts of his body to do the most damage. At the moment his left hand was wrapped in a cast.

“If it isn’t Captain Jackass, to what do I owe this displeasure?” Quinn asked in a sickly sweet voice.

“Shut it, Queenie, me and you have unfinished business.” Derek growled out.

Quinn just sighed, “Can’t you think of anything original, everyday it’s the exact same words. At least I try and come up with new come-backs.”

By now the students spectating the showdown had split into their respective groups and were shouting taunts to each other. Quinn glanced to both sides looking for a teacher, as much as she loved this fighting after 12 years it was getting boring facing the same opponent again and again.

So lost in thought she also missed the first punch. Eyes widening she quickly ducked, and without missing a beat, swept Derek's legs out from under him. He landed with a crash and the two groups grew silent. The silence lasted less then a second before a cry resounded and the two groups collided. On her feet once again, Quinn shook her head, “Dammit why does this always happen.”

Sidestepping two combatants she tried to make her escape without getting caught by Derek or any other Undead Army member. Luck was not with her though as soon three members stood in front of her all wearing vary expressions of violence. Quickly glancing behind herself she saw Derek had gotten back on his feet and was carving a path towards her.

With a shrug she got to work, dashing forward she delivered a brutal elbow to the closest combatant knocking him out cold. She twisted to dodge the punch of the second one and grabbed the arm of the third, flipping him over her back, he landed with a hard thud and a groan. She delivered a kick to his stomach to make sure he stayed down.

By now Derek had made his way to her and threw a quick jab, Quinn leaned back to dodge it but bumped into the third combatant. He wrapped his arms around her tight trapping her arms. Derek gave a predatory grin, “Looks like I win Anderson.” He drew his arm back for a powerful right.

Quinn just smirked. Lifting her leg high she stomped down as hard as she could onto the guys instep. With a howl he let go and Quinn fell to the ground just in time to avoid Dereks punch. The guy that held her was not so lucky and took the full brunt of the punch. He was out before he hit the ground

Alone now, Quinn and Derek squared off. Derek cracking his knuckles as loudly as he could. Quinn just staring waiting for an opening to end the fight. He tok a step forward, she took a step back. They continued this for a few moments, until Derek grew frustrated, “Screw it.” He snarled as he charged.

“Idiot.” Quinn muttered. Slipping to her left she raised her arm, aimed and with a cry brought it down sharply. It connected with Dereks neck perfectly and sent him sprawling.

Quinn grinned, that was the end. Soon the fighting stopped as the students noticed Derek was down. Seeing that their leader was down the Undead Army quickly ran off. The remaining student started cheering, They had won.

Quinn looked around at the cheering students with a smile, but soon it fell from her face as disgust washed over her. The students didn’t care about her, she was just an excuse to fight. If it wasn’t between her and Derek they would find another excuse to fight, that was all they cared about.

With a huff she turned to leave but stopped as she heard the principals voice,” Miss. Anderson! Go to my office right now!” Today just got better and better.

In a tree not far from the battle there was a curious looking bird that seemed far to interested in the events to be normal. It was an unnatural silver, one not seen on birds. It’s eyes glowed red and periodically clicked as if taking photos.

In a room a few miles away a woman sat in a chair and smiled at what her surveillance creature, her own creation, was showing her.

With a few clicks the picture zoomed in on one person particularly, a dark haired girl that was the cause of the fight.

Leaning back in her chair, the woman chuckled, “She’s perfect…”
